Every vegan is different. This is how I express my own veganism.
My veganism is motivated by my increasing knowledge of my direct and indirect impacts on other beings and our planet, my spiritual and moral beliefs, my sense of empathy, and my understanding of how to try to live an ethical life. It is also:
- Abolitionist, meaning that ultimately, my goal is to help visualize and move toward a vegan world where humans respect all animals (human and non-human) as persons with rights, and where we have learned to meet our needs equitably.
- Intersectional, meaning I understand speciesism, racism, classism, sexism, heterosexism, cisgenderism, ableism, ageism, and other forms of oppression to be interrelated.
- Pacifist, meaning I practice and advocate for nonviolence.
- Compassionate, meaning I believe that veganism is a liberatory process, rather than an on-off switch.
