We have some sad news today in vegan Ithaca: Ithaca’s only vegan restaurant, Food for the Planet is closing. They write,

We regret to inform you that Food For The Planet will be closing forever on October 30th. We will be available for catering in the future but our physical location will be gone. We want to thank the Ithaca community for their support. We will be open our regular dinner and brunch hours with extended hours on October 30th (we are planning a wake).

Please be sure to drop by FFTP before the 30th, so we can give them a nice send-off. Farewell, Food for the Planet, thanks for the deliciousness!

There’s a Global Vegan Waffle Party this Friday! Come to the Ithaca party:

Waffle Frolic, 146 E. State St., The Commons
Friday, May 28th
9am-midnight

vegan waffle!

As part of a global movement, Waffle Frolic will feature vegan waffle specials and new vegan recipes all day. There will be giveaways and a recipe exchange throughout the day, a Vegan educational forum, and a late-night session with DJ Cutman from 9pm-midnight. Bring the family, friends, and Vegan-curious people for good food, a little learning, and a great party!

I’ve emailed with one of the owners and they’re promoting this website in exchange for us promoting the party. I’m also promoting it because, well, I love waffles. They have all these awesome toppings you can choose from – how can you not love that? Go show them you dig vegan waffles this Friday, and bring your favorite recipes for their recipe exchange!

Please join us for a raw food potluck at Schultzie’s house, 120 Highland Place, Ithaca, top floor (near Stewart, Williams, and Eddy St, toward the Cascadilla Gorge), this Sunday Dec 13th at 6:30 PM.

It is helpful to bring a plate and utensils. Any friends are welcome. If you’ve got time, please bring a fresh plant-based dish to pass, withholding animal-sourced foods such as honey, eggs, milk, butter, cheese, and flesh.

Recipe ideas are at www.goneraw.com

Food For The Planet will now be open for lunch! They’ll also continue to be open for dinner Thursday – Sunday and for Brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Lunch hours are 11am-2pm.

The lunch menu includes sandwiches, wraps, and salads in the $6-8 range with several raw options, soup ($4/cup or $7/bowl), chili with gluten-free cornbread ($5.25/cup or $8.25/bowl), and sides including my personal favorite, potato kale hash ($4). Go grab a lunch this week to show your support for vegan dining in Ithaca.

Thanks to Club Veg Southern Tier for the tip. Join their mailing list to get local vegan updates like this one in your in-box!

On October 30th (TONIGHT!), there will be a Halloween Party and Grand Opening of Good Stuff by Mom and Me! Celebrate and support the opening of this new business: Good Stuff Kitchen at 2127 W Danby Rd, Newfield, NY.
